A Mala (Japmala) is a string of 108 prayer beads tied together by a string , or 'sumeru', for the spiritual practice known as 'japa' which is the turning of the beads while chanting the Swaminarayan mantra. The beads are made of tulsi. A Kanthi is a double-stringed set of beads also made of tulsi.
